Robert Anderson is a student of Alexander Baillie at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. Born and brought up in Glasgow, he started playing the cello at the age of eight and spent five years at the Junior Department of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He then studied at the RSAMD under David Watkin, Robert Irvine and Johannes Goritzky, and took Alexander Technique lessons with Isobel Anderson. He was awarded several prizes and scholarships, and gained First Class Honours and a PGDip with Distinction. He was invited to play chamber music at the Mendelssohn on Mull chamber music festival, performing quartets, quintets and sextets with Levon Chilingirian, Alasdair Tait and Gabrielle Lester, and played with the RSNO and Scottish Opera. Robert is a founding member of the acclaimed young Alba Quartet, who were awarded the inaugural EMS Residency Project, and perform regularly throughout the country. Robert is supported by the Cross Trust and the Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarships Trust. He plays on a copy of the "Mara" Strad, made in 2006 by Tobias Graeter.
