Emily was born in Salisbury in 1983 and began learning the cello aged 13. In 2001 she moved to Glasgow to study with Robert Irvine at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama for two years before moving to Lugano in Switzerland to study with Robert Cohen. She was generously supported in her studies there by the Stanley Picker Trust Fund. During her four years in Lugano Emily performed the celebrated Brahms Sextets and cello ensemble repertoire alongside Robert Cohen and was principal cellist of Ensemble Nove Cento with whom she broadcast several times on Swiss Radio. Inspired by the classes of viola da gambist Vittorio Ghielmi she formed a duo with gambist Johanna Rose and has performed both in the UK and Switzerland. Emily loves improvisation and has also studied the modes and rhythmic cycles of Northern Indian music with Afghan composer and virtuoso Khaled Arman and collaborated with the multi-instrumentalist Igor Ezendam on his latest album.

In September 2007 Emily was awarded a Scholarship to return to the RSAMD and enjoyed a year taking lessons from Robert Irvine and Johannes Goritski and performed in masterclasses with Colin Carr and with members of the Brodsky Quartet.

Emily is currently living in Glasgow's west end and aside from her work with the quartet enjoys a busy freelance career with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Opera, and the Auricle Ensemble.
